2026 Fair Show Rules

The Morgan County Junior Livestock Committee reserves the right to interpret all livestock rules and regulations for the best interest of the shows and sale.

Exhibitor Eligibility:

The Morgan County Jr. Livestock Show and Sale is open to all youth who are residents of Morgan County.

To show and sell an animal, exhibitors must be:

  1. 8 years of age and in third grade as of September 1 of the current 4-H year (09/01/2025). Exhibitors can only show through the same season as their high school graduation, but not past their 19th birthday.
  2. Exhibitors must be enrolled in 4-H by April 1, 2026, by 5pm. No enrollment will be accepted after April 1, 2026. FFA exhibitors must be enrolled in an agriculture class for the current school year 2024-2025 and be an active member of the FFA by April 1, 2026.
  3. To show and sell at the Morgan County Fair, exhibitors must participate in a showmanship class at the Morgan County Spring Show, a state-sanctioned show, or another superintendent-approved jackpot. Exhibitors are required to provide proof of attendance at any show other than the Morgan County Spring Show. They must submit a class list that includes the exhibitor’s name and showmanship class. This requirement must be completed by July 15, 2026.
  4. To participate in the fair, exhibitors must attend a superintendent-approved workshop by July 15, 2026. If showing more than one species, they need to attend a separate workshop for each. Carcass workshops are not eligible. Workshop dates will be announced.
  5. All livestock to be sold must be a 4-H or FFA project with appropriate records. All exhibitors will be required to submit a finished, up to date 4-H Portfolio (red ribbon level or higher) or FFA AET by 10:00 am, August 21, 2026. Portfolios/AETs turned in after August 21,2026, will incur a $50 fine. FFA AET or 4-H Portfolios (red ribbon level or higher) not turned in by 5:00 pm September 28, 2026, will not be able to show the following year.
  6. An appreciation letter/Thank You note to all buyers/boosters must be submitted to the Extension Office prior to receiving their sale proceeds. If these are not turned in by 5:00 pm, September 1, 2026, $50 will be taken off the exhibitor’s sales check.
  7. All checks must be cashed by December 31, 2026. Checks not cashed by December 31st will be forfeited. All monies from uncashed checks and fines will be relinquished to the Morgan County Jr. Livestock account.

Livestock Eligibility:

  1. A 4-H/FFA member in Morgan County must have ownership of their market livestock by the tagging dates. The animal must be tagged with a Morgan County Jr. Livestock approved tag. Animals will be tagged at a tagging/weigh in: Date, time, and location set by the Morgan County Jr. Livestock committee. The animal must be raised in Morgan County.
    • Beef: April 7, 2026, 5:30 pm Morgan County Fairgrounds
    • Beef: April 9, 2026, 5:30 pm Morgan County Fairgrounds
    • Hogs: April 11, 2026, 8:00-10:00 am Morgan County Fairgrounds
    • Hogs: May 12, 2026, 6:00-8:00pm Morgan County Fairgrounds
    • Lambs/Goats: May 19, 2026, 6:30 pm Morgan County Fairgrounds
    • Lambs/Goats: May 28, 2026, 6:30 pm Morgan County Fairgrounds
  2. Every animal is required to meet the age requirement listed below by the opening day of the fair.
    • Beef must be no older than 24 months.
    • Lambs must still have their lamb teeth.
    • Swine must be no older than 12 months.
    • Goats must be no older than 12 months.
  3. Each exhibitor will be allowed to weigh in a maximum of two market animals per species at the fair. Only one animal may sell per exhibitor. Exhibitors may tag in more than two animals per species/per exhibitor. There will be a charge of $5 per tag. One (1) alternate animal per immediate family unit may also be tagged. Immediate family unit means brother and sister only. If a family has an alternate animal, it must be declared as such at tag in. If the alternate animal is to be used it must be assigned to a specific exhibitor prior to weighing in at the fair, keeping in mind that no exhibitor may have more than two animals per species at the fair. If an exhibitor tags in 2 or more animals under their name, they would be exempt from using the alternate animal. Any alternate animal used by a family unit must also be qualified by showing at the Spring Show, any other state sanctioned Jr. Livestock show, or an approved Jackpot show held in Morgan County, UT (Jackpot show must be approved by the Morgan Jr. Livestock Committee).
  4. To be eligible to show and sell at the Morgan County Fair, exhibitors must have shown EACH participating animal at the Morgan County Spring Show, another state-sanctioned Jr. Livestock Show, or a Jackpot Show approved by their Species Superintendents. Exhibitors are required to provide proof of attendance at any show other than the Morgan County Spring Show. They must submit a class list that includes the exhibitor’s name, tag number, and weight for each participating animal. This requirement must be completed by July 15, 2026.
  5. A Bill of Sale is required on all market animals. This will need to be uploaded into our new system when you register for the Spring Show. Brand Inspections are required for all Market Beef. This must be presented at tag in and then again at weigh in at the Fair. Scrapie tags are required on all ewe lambs.
  6. Minimum Weights: Beef – 1100 pounds and up. Lambs – 110 pounds and up. Hogs -230 pounds and up. Goats – 55 pounds and up. Weigh-In Rules will be as follows: Drenching animals on the fairgrounds is prohibited prior to weigh-in. An exhibitor can request an instant re-weigh before the animal leaves the scale the first time. The animal will then leave the scale, the scale will be zeroed out and the animal will immediately be re-weighed. Animals will not be allowed food or water before re-entering the scale. All animals will be dry when weighed. Sheep must be slick shorn with no blanket and will be weighed with standard lamb halter. All market animals will be divided into lots by weight. Lots will be posted following the weigh-in. Underweight animals can be shown in the exhibitor’s showmanship class. There will be no feeder class. All underweight animals will need to be taken home following their show.
  7. Any extra animals can be taken home following their show. This needs to be done by 8:00 pm on the day of their show or they will have to remain at the Fairgrounds until 8:00 pm on Saturday.
  8. If an exhibitor has two animals that are similar or same in weight, they can declare when their animals are weighed, that they would like to move one of them up to the next weight class if needed so they will not have two animals in the same class. If the animals weigh the same, the exhibitor will have to choose which animal will move up. If they are similar weights, the heavier of the two will move up. *This must be declared at the scale when the exhibitors' animals are being weighed. No exceptions.
  9. All animals will be subject to a health inspection at weigh-in. No animal will be exhibited or sold unless found to be in a thrifty, sound, disease-free, healthy condition. Any animal found unhealthy will be removed from the grounds. Drenching is permitted with proper equipment. Animals force-fed by other methods cannot be shown. During the livestock event, in the case of an animal requiring treatment, all medication must be pre-authorized by the Morgan Co. Jr. Livestock Committee.
  10. The committee reserves the right to collect blood/urine/hide/carcass samples for random prohibited substance testing. See corresponding prohibited substance testing guidance for rules.
  11. Unruly animals will be sifted at the discretion of the species superintendent. The Jr. Livestock Committee will have the final decision on any animals sifted prior to the show. Any animal sifted during the Fair Show will not sell.

Show Rules:

  1. Dress Code:

    4-H - A long or short-sleeved shirt, which fastens down the front with a collar, is mandatory. Shirts must be solid white in color and need not be Western style. Black or blue pants are to be worn and closed-toed shoes. There is to be a 4-H emblem or patch on all 4-H members' left shirt sleeve.

    FFA - Either a white shirt, tie, black pants and FFA jacket, or a white shirt with the FFA emblem, tie and black pants.

    The following will not be allowed: T-shirts, tank tops, tube tops, sleeveless shirts, vests, ripped pants and opened toed shoes. Exhibitors who fail to abide by dress standards will forfeit winnings.

  2. Exhibitors must show their own animal for showmanship. No adults will show for an exhibitor.
  3. Showmanship will be divided into the following classes: 3-5 grade (Junior), 6-8 grade (Intermediate), 9-12 grade (Senior) of the previous school year. Order of the classes will be posted.
  4. Appropriate behavior of both youth exhibitors and parents is expected! There will be no tolerance for foul language or inappropriate treatment of animals, judges or show officials. Inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated during any Jr. Livestock activity including show prep and cleanup. Any infraction of this rule may result in a place reduction, forfeiture of premiums, and dismissal of the premises or banishment from future shows as decided by the Jr. Livestock Committee.
  5. Drenching an animal is prohibited in the holding pen.

Sale Rules:

  1. ALL sales must go through the Jr. Livestock Show Sale Committee, including packer bought animals. To cover various Jr. Livestock and sale expenses, a sale commission of 4% for beef and 6% for lambs and hogs will be assessed on all animals going through the Jr. Livestock Sale.
  2. Animals will sell by the head.
  3. All Grand and Reserve Champion winners in the beef, sheep, goats and swine market classes must sell their winning animals. These animals are not eligible to compete at any Utah Jr. Livestock shows.
  4. Only blue and red ribbon animals will sell.
  5. Exhibitors may only sell one animal.
  6. If the exhibitor shows more than one animal, it is their responsibility to declare what animal will be sold immediately following their show.
  7. Exhibitors must be properly dressed in 4-H or FFA approved attire for the Jr. Livestock Sale.
  8. The Grand and Reserve Champions for each species will sell first; starting with beef, hogs and lambs will rotate each year. The sale will then alternate species with the number of animals in each species to be determined by the number of animals scheduled to sell.

Carcass Contest Rules:

Each exhibitor is required to do the following:

  1. Attend a carcass workshop, Dates to be determined.
  2. Be properly dressed in respectful attire (i.e., shirt with sleeves, jeans, and closed toe shoes).
  3. Present your own animal that will be sold at the auction to be ultrasounded.

General Rules:

Any exhibitor/family member found to break any of the Morgan County Jr. Livestock Program rules contained in the Morgan Jr. Livestock Rules and Regulations, Spring Show Booklet or the Morgan County Fair Livestock Book before, during or after the county fair will forfeit up to all awards, sales monies and will not be eligible to enter the county fair for a minimum of at least one year following the rule infraction. The Jr. Livestock Committee will determine the severity of the penalty in a case-by-case situation.

An exhibitor wishing to file a grievance must submit a grievance form along with $50 to the grievance committee. Forms will be available at the livestock table. The grievance committee will make a ruling on grievances brought to their attention. If the committee votes in favor of the grievance the $50 will be refunded to the submitter. If the committee votes against grievance the $50 will be forfeited.

General Information:

  • The Morgan County Jr. Livestock Spring Show is a progressive show.
  • Once an animal has gone through any stock show sale, regardless of buyback or non-sale, it is no longer eligible to enter a state sanctioned show.
  • The Morgan Co. Jr. Livestock shows, and Auction will be scheduled as follows.
    • Tuesday, July 28, 2026, Goat Show TBD
    • Wednesday, July 29, 2026, 9:00 am - Lamb Show
    • Thursday, July 30, 2026, 8:00 am - Hog Show
    • Friday, July 31, 2026, 10:00 am - Beef Show
    • Saturday, August 1, 2026, 10:00 am – Livestock Auction
  • No bedding or feed will be provided.
  • There is no longer a water system in the hog barn. You will need to bring your own system for watering your hogs.
  • Exhibitors must be present during animal fitting.
  • Animals should be groomed and ready for judging according to the schedule that applies to the appropriate division.
  • Animal pens must be kept clean during the fair. At the conclusion of the Fair, pens need to be cleaned with waste placed as directed. Pens not cleaned will be done by management and a $25.00 fee assessed to the exhibitor. Any animals fed by management will also be assessed as a $25.00 fee.
